where is exactly to add the child theme? in he theme folder as the genesis theme?
That is correct,
You add the child theme files directly to the genesis folder, then go to themes within your wordpress installation and activate the child theme.

I’m reading the above comment, but I’m still a little confused. I’m relatively new to wordpress. I’m working for someone and creating a theme with the Genesis Framework.
So, how exactly do I do this without deleting the original files, because the whole point is to preserve the css file right?
So for example I still want to use the the Genesis theme, but want to tailor it to my end. Can I do something like
A) Should I put a folder like /Genesis/child_theme/ Copy all files over
or
B) do something like child_theme_page.php vs page.php, and child_theme_images folder vs. images folder?
